STARTING UP MY ACER 5735

i just picked up my laptop yesterday and am having some anxiety after reading about how it comes with the TROJAN VIRUS...is this true and what do i do? i have not even turned it on yet for fear i will mess something up...i have a copy of KASPERSKY ANTI-VIRUS 2009 and wondering if this is sufficient...i will be on a network wirelessly and need protection...can you help me step by step with this...i have used computers for a long time, but consider myself a newbie when it comes to the inner workings...thanks...pat...
