Latitude won't turn on

Had a problem (i've had before) where it wouldn't turn off/shut down, this i believe was because i had another program running so stopped the shutdown procedure. This time i did the usual a held the power button down to 'force' shut down... this time it didn't work so quickly unclipped the battery to shut it off. However i am now trying to turn it on..firstly did me buggering about with the battery mess it up? If not what else could be the problem ? i have checked the power, i have unclipped battery with and without mains power in.so i'm stuck. HELP ...
