DENON ADV-500SD DISC DRIVE PROBLEM

Just acquired my fathers old Denon surround sound system. However before I can use it I need to sort out the disc drive. I can't get the cd/dvd slot to open. Seems a shame to discard it or pay a fortune to get it fixed when it might just be a matter of chahnging a part. Any ideas folks?...
